A red-carpet benefit screening of the (1953) 20th Century Fox movie “The Robe” starring Richard Burton, Victor Mature, and Jean Simmons will be hosted by Anton Evangelista at the historic, state-of-the-art ‘The Picture House’, in Pelham, NY. The screening will celebrate the film’s 60th Anniversary as the very first epic Cinemascope motion picture and celebrated in the style of an old Hollywood premiere.

“The Robe” tells the inspirational story of Roman tribune Marcellus Gallio (Richard Burton) who is assigned to supervise the crucifixion of Jesus, winning Christ’s robe at a dice game, and how this holy garment transforms his life. The film also stars Victor Mature as his slave, Demetrius, Jean Simmons as his love, Diana, with Michael Rennie as the disciple Peter, and Jay Robinson as Caligula. The film won three Academy Awards, for Best Art Direction, Best Set Decoration and Best Costume, while also nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Cinematography, plus its musical score was composed by the brilliant Alfred Newman.

As part of Easter week celebration, award-winning Director/Filmmaker Anton Evangelista will present and discuss the film, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the making of the film, while also explaining the social impact the film has made throughout the world.

Proceeds from the event will go to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School in the Bronx, of which Mr. Evangelista is an alumnus, to fund the development of creative arts programs that enrich and complement the spiritual education of their students.

Mr. Evangelista recounts, “When I first saw The Robe as a young child it left an indelible impression on me. I always looked forward to seeing it every Easter and I hope I can help bring that same excitement and that message to today’s children by introducing them to this timeless classic. The Robe helped nurture my spiritual foundation and re-enforced the teachings of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, a place that will forever have a special place in my heart.”

Mr. Evangelista’s longer term goal is to bring “The Robe” to other Catholic schools, particularly at a time when so many are struggling to meet financial goals.

Directed by Anton Evangelista (2012)

Anton Evangelista is a New York City-based filmmaker. After graduation, he found a niche as a storyboard artist for advertising agencies, while landing acting roles in a variety of renowned films. He also worked as an Italian translator for Martin Scorsese and Dante Ferretti on The Age of Innocence. His first short film, Beyond Reason (1995, went on to play at many international film festivals, as did his film Intervention (2004), an award-winning, character-driven love story, taking place in 1968. Umberto E is the epic story of Umberto Evangelista, a dynamic and charming ninety-year-old Italian immigrant living in New York City. The moie depicts his real life Cinderella tale, in which he chooses love and forgiveness as his weapons of revenge.
